Dr Nadeem Akhtar

Dr. Nadeem Akhtar is a Board Member of Pennine GP Alliance (PGPA) and serves as the Clinical Director for the Central Halifax Primary Care Network (PCN). In his role, Nadeem helps shape the organisation’s strategic direction, working to develop services that improve healthcare delivery across Calderdale. He is also the Clinical Lead for NHS Health Checks and a member of the PGPA Strategy Group.

A founding member of PGPA, Nadeem has been an integral part of the organisation since its very beginning. His career journey started with GP training in Halifax, where he gained valuable experience and insight into the complexities of primary care. After completing his training, he joined Spring Hall Group Practice as a GP Partner.

Today, Nadeem is the Managing Partner at Spring Hall Group Practice, where he plays a pivotal role in leading the practice and overseeing its operations. He also serves as the Training Programme Director for the Pennine GP Training Scheme and is a GP Appraiser, helping to shape the next generation of general practitioners whilst ensuring they maintain the highest standards of professional development.

Nadeem’s areas of expertise include service development and strategy. His vision for PGPA is to position it as the preferred provider for large-scale healthcare delivery in Calderdale. He sees PGPA playing a key role in improving the health and wellbeing of the local community, making healthcare more accessible and effective.

The most rewarding part of Nadeem’s role is developing services that support GP surgeries and improve patient outcomes. He is passionate about creating system-level change to address the challenges faced by general practice and believes that PGPA’s work will continue to reduce health inequalities and strengthen community care.

As a leader, Nadeem values vision, compassion, and resilience. He believes in empowering colleagues and working collaboratively to achieve strategic goals. He works closely with other Board members to align decisions with both patient needs and operational objectives. For Nadeem, PGPA’s longevity and its consistent support of general practice make it a great organisation to be part of. The organisation’s original members, still driving change today, continue to demonstrate the same passion and dedication as when it was first founded.

Nadeem’s commitment to healthcare is driven by a desire to create positive change and improve patient wellbeing. He is guided by values of honesty, integrity, and always putting patients first, focusing on making healthcare more efficient and accessible for both surgeries and patients.

Working in Calderdale allows Nadeem to collaborate with colleagues who share a similar vision. The diversity of communities in the region provides an opportunity to create healthcare solutions that reflect the needs of a varied population.

Outside of work, Nadeem enjoys playing football and cricket and finds these activities both relaxing and energising. His personal motivation is to make a difference, spread happiness, and help people in any way he can. Staying grounded, Nadeem draws inspiration from his efforts to improve the health of the community he serves.

Through his work with PGPA, Nadeem remains dedicated to advancing primary care and making a meaningful impact on patient care across Calderdale.
