Who we are
Formed in 2014, Pennine GP Alliance is a member-led organisation made up of 19 GP practices in Calderdale, who form 5 Primary Care Networks (PCNs), collectively serving over 223,000 registered patients.

Ensuring viable GP services remain at the heart of our neighbourhoods.
What we do
We advocate for General Practice in Calderdale
A key aim is to secure as many health contracts as possible to keep primary care at the heart of our neighbourhoods via local providers. Patients can therefore continue to see the people they know well, in locations they know well, with additional services to meet their needs.
We provide organisational support functions for Primary Care Networks
Our Head Office team provide organisational support that enables Primary Care Networks and the General Practices within them to operate efficiently and effectively.
This includes:
- ARRS employment (additional roles reimbursement scheme)
- Full HR service
- Full Financial Management service
- Primary Care Network Admin
- Communications support
We manage and mobilise healthcare services that help patients in need
This supports General Practices with their increasing demand and capacity pressures, whilst ensuring patients with a specific health condition have better access to appropriate services for their needs.
Rolling out initial patient facing health services can involve initial research, compiling a business case, recruiting the workforce, accessing clinical systems, communicating with patients, evaluation and reporting.

We deliver health projects that trail new models of care delivery in the community
An example of this includes NHS Health check enhancements to target specific underserved groups such as our South Asian community or certain health inequalities. Also, PGPA Digital Transformation projects.
Our People
Our organisation employes over 100 staff, with the majority working in clinical roles within Primary Care Networks (PCNs) to support General Practice and their patients across Calderdale. Both clinical and non-cinical staff are based either in our head office or within PCNs, ensuring seamless service delivery. Additionally, we employ clinical professionals to deliver specialised PGPA services, such as spirometry and accute respiratory care, further enhancing patient support and healthcare outcomes.

Our Annual Review
Welcome to our Annual Review for 2024.
This was PGPA’s first-ever annual review, marking a significant milestone in our journey over the past decade. Since our formation in 2014, PGPA has worked tirelessly to ensure that GP services remain at the heart of local communities in Calderdale. The review offers an in-depth look at the achievements of the past year, as well as a celebration of the impact PGPA has had over the last ten years in transforming healthcare delivery in the region.

How we are funded
Pennine GP Alliance is funded in two ways:
- Funding secured from the West Yorkshire Integrated Care Board, NHS England and Local Authority to deliver at scale activity on behalf of general practice.
- Financial contribution from Calderdale Primary Care Networks for organisational support.
