Since becoming Chief Executive Officer of Pennine GP Alliance (PGPA) in 2022, Will Menzies has been a catalyst for significant positive change, driving the organisation’s transformation and growth. His leadership has brought a renewed sense of purpose, strategic clarity, and operational excellence. Reporting monthly to PGPA’s Board of Directors and providing strategic direction alongside the Leadership Team, Will continues to enhance both internal culture and external partnerships, positioning Pennine GP Alliance for continued success.
Will’s impact as CEO is particularly evident in the strengthened focus on improving patient care and supporting local GP practices. He has successfully expanded the organisation’s “at scale” services in Calderdale, working collaboratively with key partners to provide high-quality, community-based care that no single practice could offer independently. This has directly led to an increase in utilised patient appointments, with positive feedback from both patients and healthcare professionals.
Initially joining Pennine GP Alliance as a founding Director in 2014, Will has been instrumental in its growth over the last 10 years. His passion for general practice and community healthcare drives his commitment to strengthening local GP services. A Chartered Accountant by background with a diverse career spanning television, clothing manufacturing, social care, and charity finance, Will brings a unique perspective to healthcare leadership, combining financial expertise with a focus on long-term sustainability and improved patient outcomes.
Having spent ten years as a Practice Manager, Will understands the critical role general practice plays in delivering accessible and efficient healthcare. His vision for Pennine GP Alliance is centred on ensuring GP services remain central to local neighbourhoods providing the foundation for high-quality care.
Will’s leadership style is collaborative, transparent, and empowering. He values diverse perspectives, listens to his team, and fosters an environment where individuals are motivated to contribute. He finds great satisfaction in working with dedicated people who share a common goal of improving patient care.
Role as a PGPA Board Member
Will focuses on strategic leadership, developing and fostering strong internal and external relationships to ensure PGPA can work as a great partner within a complex healthcare system.
His essential leadership qualities include active listening to diverse stakeholders, taking collective responsibility for decisions, and collaborating through sub-groups focused on risk and organisational development, ensuring the organisation’s goals are achieved effectively.
With strong expertise in Primary Care finance, Will also contributes to aligning financial strategies that benefit PGPA, Primary Care Networks, and Practices. He finds it rewarding to shape the direction of general practice in Calderdale.
